Of course you can adjust each image individually to your taste, but you said you initially wanted to shoot RAW + JPG, right? The NEF file contains all the settings from the camera, and NX-D reads those settings by default. Using NX-D, the resulting JPG will be exactly as if you had set your camera correctly for RAW and JPG. The NEF converted in NX-D is EXACTLY the same as the out-of-camera jpeg (and, yes, I am shouting), However the result of the conversion (unless saved as a jpeg) is 16 bits rather than the 8-bit standard for jpeg. So it is not eyeballing the results for differences.

I could just do a mass conversion of NEF to JPG, but then my pictures would not look optimal since there is no processing done to them. This is a pain in the butt as now I have to process all my NEF files and save to JPG so that I can upload to Flickr. I had thought that I had the D500 setting to record RAW in my secondary slot, and JPG into my primary, but unfortunately, I must have made mistake and forgot to set the picture format to NEF+JPEG Fine, so all I got was all NEF for both cards.
